Anne’s enjoyment of wood as a medium has remained with her since the age of twelve. She is often inspired by the beauty of imperfections found in native hardwood and softwood species. Anne practises wood sculpture and relief carving, occasionally using acrylics and wood-burning techniques to augment her pieces. She enjoys carving wildlife and depicting historical and community scenes in her relief carvings. Some of her pieces include seascapes, fishing villages, boats, birds and other coastal scenes. Some of her earlier work included Santas and gnomes which she painted. More recently Anne has been carving figures and faces in wood.

Another of Anne’s passions is to draw and paint, although her carving takes most of her time. She has also been involved in the community art projects and her work sometimes reflects her feeling of joy and privilege at being able to live and garden on Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore close to the vibrant energy of its coastal woodlands and its people.
