Rural Route/City Route Community Art Project

A Community Art Project for Dartmouth & Sheet Harbour

Rural Route/City Route community art project is an HRM funded community art project facilitated by Julie Adamson-Miller that connects the urban and rural communities of Dartmouth and Sheet Harbour through the exchange of art and craft.  A mailbox system was created to contain the art pieces made by members of one community for the other.

For example, mythical creatures and stories were created by children in a workshop in Sheet Harbour to put in the mailbox in Dartmouth.  Children in the pottery class in the Findlay Centre in Dartmouth, made clay pieces to put in the mailbox in Sheet Harbour.  There were three art exchanges, one involving children’s art, another from seniors and the final from artists.  During the second week of December all of the art or craft made were exhibited in the local libraries (Woodlawn and Sheet Harbour) for one week.

On the last day of the exhibition the community was invited to help wrap the art to become gifts for community members in need of a little cheer.
